MINISTRY OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND GENDER AFFAIRS
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified nationals of Trinidad and Tobago for employment, on contract,
for a period of two (2) years, in the Ministry of Community Development
and Gender Affairs.
THE JOB: The successful
candidate will be required to advise on the development and implementation
of an effective communications strategy for the Ministry; assists in the
establishment and maintenance of an efficient and effective Communications
Unit and formulate, implement and evaluate communications projects and
programmes for the Ministry.
THE INDIVIDUAL: The
ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communications
skills, be highly motivated, committed and possess strong technical and managerial
skills. He/She must be prepared to work extended hours and to be
available on non-traditional working days, as necessary.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop and implement a strategic corporate communications policy
for the Ministry.
- Ensure that the correct image of the organization, its policies,
products, services and personnel are maintained.
- Develop and sustain beneficial relationships with all the various
publics of the Ministry including the Media, NGO's CBO's and other
Governmental Agencies.
- Research, monitor and analyze the opinion of the various publics and
report such intelligence appropriately to management.
- Monitor and evaluate corporate communication activities to determine
value, cost and other benefits and initiate corrective action as
appropriate.
- Manage the Corporate Communications Unit and collaborate with the
other units of the Ministry to ensure that strategic linkages are
established and maintained.
- Represent the Ministry at various fora.
- Prepare speeches, media releases, advertisements and presentations
on behalf of the Ministry.
- Plan, co-ordinate and organize various events of the Ministry.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven track record in the field of communications at a senior level
for at least four (4) years.
- Considerable knowledge of and experience with media, media planning
and with modern methods of information and news gathering and
dissemination
- Tertiary level qualification in communications or public relations.
- Knowledge of principles of project planning
- Experience in events co-ordination with knowledge or related
protocol requirements.
- Working knowledge of relevant computer applications e.g. Desktop
Publishing and Microsoft Office Software including Power Point.
